🍎 Local Home & School Elections

Plan to hold your local Home & School election of officers in June to allow new executive members ample time to prepare for the 2025-26 school year. Establish a nomination committee to seek out new volunteer reps and invite new families to volunteer in the school. Participation helps everyone feel a sense of belonging and is invaluable in shaping your school community. If you need any guidance or support, contact the Federation office at 902-620-3186 / ssmedleyjay@gov.pe.ca.

Federation president David Schult writes a monthly column for The Guardian newspaper, published on the first Saturday of the month during the school year. The June 7 will be posted at News - PEI Home and School Federation (peihsf.ca) 

 

🍎 Child Protection

An Act to amend PEI’s Education Act, Bill #101, May 14, 2025 - 19. Annual reports (1) Subject to subsection (3), each education authority shall submit an annual report to the Minister, in accordance, with the Minister’s directives.

🍎 Province announces a review of Island education authorities
The Province has appointed the Honourable David H. Jenkins, former Chief Justice of Prince Edward Island and Chief Justice of the Prince Edward Island Court of Appeal, to lead a third-party review of the policies, procedures, and processes of both the Public Schools Branch, la Commission scolaire de langue française, and the Department of Education and Early Years.  https://www.princeedwardisland.ca/en/news/province-announces-a-review-of-island-education-authorities

🍎 Laval University and PEI Dept. Health Screentime Survey - $20 to participate

A Université Laval and the PEI Department of Health and Wellness study, called “Virtual Realities: Navigating PEI Youth Online and Offline Technology Use,” looks at how gaming, gambling, and screen time may affect youth and their families. Parents are invited to take part by completing a short online survey (15-20 minutes) about your child’s screen time. If you choose to join, you can also allow your child (ages 12–17) to do their own survey. Both you and your child may each receive a $20 gift certificate for taking part. Your answers will be private and only used for research; Your feedback will help create programs for youth mental health and family support in PEI.
